Collection: Suspension Bushes (31)

Replacement suspension bushes for HGV and commercial vehicle applications, including rubber and polyurethane bushes for spring hangers, torque rod mounts, and suspension linkage points. Worn bushes cause knocking from the suspension, increased tyre wear, and handling changes. They are a service item on high-mileage vehicles and should be checked at every inspection. Parts are stocked for the main HGV makes including DAF, Scania, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Iveco, and Renault. Next-day delivery to UK mainland. Same-day collection from our branches in Redditch, Worcester, Birmingham, and Evesham.

Suspension bushes on HGVs: types, failure signs, and replacement

Suspension bushes are the rubber or polyurethane elements that isolate metal-to-metal contact at every pivot point in the suspension system. On an HGV, the main bush locations are the spring hanger brackets, the torque rod ends, the anti-roll bar mounts, and the axle locating links. They wear progressively, so the deterioration is gradual rather than sudden, which means they are often further gone than they look by the time a problem is noticed.

The first sign of worn bushes is usually knocking or clunking from the suspension over rough ground or on tight turning. Tyre wear that is uneven across the tread width can also point to bush wear, particularly at the axle location points. At annual test, excessive play at suspension joints is a common cause of first-time failures.

Pressing out worn bushes requires a hydraulic press and the correct mandrels. On some HGV spring hanger designs, the bracket has to be removed from the chassis to allow pressing, which increases the labour time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check if suspension bushes need replacing on an HGV?

With the vehicle on a ramp, use a pry bar to check for movement at each bush location. Any visible rubber cracking, splitting, or delamination from the metal sleeve is grounds for replacement. Movement at the pivot point beyond the manufacturer's tolerance is a DVSA annual test failure criterion.

What is the difference between rubber and polyurethane suspension bushes?

Rubber bushes absorb vibration and noise more effectively, which is why they are fitted as standard on most HGVs. Polyurethane bushes are harder, have a longer service life in high-load applications, and maintain tighter geometry, but they transmit more noise and vibration into the chassis.

Can I grease suspension bushes on an HGV?

Rubber bushes should not be greased as petroleum-based lubricants degrade the rubber. Some polyurethane bushes are designed with a grease nipple and require lubrication at service intervals. Check the bush specification before applying any lubricant.

Does Truckstop Group stock suspension bushes for all HGV makes?
