How should ratchet straps be inspected and stored?

Inspect straps before each use for cuts, abrasion, chemical damage, broken stitching or distortion to the ratchet mechanism. Damaged straps must be taken out of service immediately and not repaired. Store straps away from direct sunlight, heat sources and chemicals when not in use. UV degradation weakens polyester webbing over time even without visible damage.
