    Canny is a CAN interface, developed by Lazer Lamps, that enables installation of auxiliary lights for selected vehicles using CAN communication systems, where it is otherwise not possible to pick-up 12V lighting signals at the back of the vehicle headlamp for example. Comprising a Canny Dongle, plus wiring loom, and supported by a dedicated app (CANNY.LZR), the system benefits from being able to mount within your vehicle’s engine bay for faster and easier installation, or inside the vehicle. Over-the-air Bluetooth synchronisation and updates furthers the systems ease of use and speed of installation. The Dongle comprises an automotive standard Molex connector, ensuring a completely watertight solution, to IP68. Integrated design features and included cable ties facilitate mounting of the unit. Locating the device within the engine bay is preferable for ease of install, but will be dependent on the CAN Hi / CAN Lo wires pick-up location on each vehicle. Connection to the vehicle CAN wires is made via the supplied wiring loom, with the blue (CAN Hi) and yellow (CAN Lo) wires supplied with automotive grade heat-seal crimps for completing watertight connections. The supplied wiring loom also includes a fused battery positive connection, and ground wire. Additionally 4 output wires, each programable to respond to different inputs, whether: high beam, position light, ignition, reverse etc., and compatible with any of our vehicle wiring kits (where the required output is >1Amp). Activation, synchronisation, and ongoing updates of your Canny Dongle are achieved through the app. Having gained full access via the unique serial number and PIN on your device, users can then access installation guides for their vehicle, before pairing with the device and assigning and testing the different lighting functions. Updates, for example following a vehicle manufacturer making changes to the CAN ‘recipes’, can also be completed via Bluetooth.

Lazer Lamps CAN Solutions for modern vehicle electrical systems

Modern vehicles - particularly those manufactured from around 2015 onwards - manage their electrical systems through a CAN (Controller Area Network) bus rather than simple switched circuits. On a traditional vehicle, fitting auxiliary lights via a relay triggered from the main beam positive wire is straightforward. On a CAN-bus managed vehicle, drawing current from a switched circuit in the same way can trigger fault codes, interference with the vehicle's lighting management system, or prevent the auxiliary lights from functioning as expected.

Lazer's CAN Solutions are dedicated wiring harnesses that interface with the vehicle's CAN system correctly, allowing Lazer lights to operate without affecting the vehicle's electrical management. Each CAN Solution harness is vehicle-specific - engineered for the particular CAN architecture of the vehicle it is designed for - rather than a generic relay kit that may or may not work on a given platform.
