DAF XF parts: XF105 vs New Generation XF
The two main DAF XF generations in current UK service are the XF105 (Euro 5, produced 2006–2017) and the New Generation XF (Euro 6, produced 2017 onwards). These two generations have significantly different cab designs and different engine and emissions architectures. Parts for one will not fit the other in most categories.
The XF105 uses the MX340, MX375, MX410, MX440, or MX510 engine designations — all variants of the MX-engine platform in Euro 4 and Euro 5 tune. The New Generation XF uses the MX-11 (10.8-litre) or MX-13 (12.9-litre) engine in Euro 6 specification. Emissions system components are specific to the Euro standard and engine variant.
The New Generation XF cab is larger, with a redesigned interior and updated front end. Headlamp assemblies, bumpers, grilles, and interior trim are all generation-specific. The XF105 front end is a distinctive design with the XF nose badge integrated into the upper grille area — New Generation XF parts will not fit this cab.
On high-mileage XF105 trucks, the most common maintenance items are engine seals, EGR valve, turbocharger oil supply components, and fuel system filtration. For New Generation XF, add the full Euro 6 emissions system — DPF, SCR catalyst, AdBlue dosing, and NOx sensors — to the regular maintenance scope.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the DAF XF105 and the New Generation XF?
The XF105 is a Euro 4/5 truck produced 2006–2017. The New Generation XF is a Euro 6 truck produced from 2017. They have different cab designs, different engines (the XF105 uses the older MX engine; the New Generation uses MX-11 or MX-13), and different emissions systems. Parts are not interchangeable across these generations in most categories.
What engines does the New Generation DAF XF use?
The New Generation XF uses either the MX-11 (10.8-litre, available from 390–430 HP) or the MX-13 (12.9-litre, available from 480–530 HP) inline-six diesel engines in Euro 6 specification. Both are equipped with EGR, DPF, SCR, and AdBlue dosing systems.
What are the most common maintenance items on a high-mileage DAF XF105?
Common maintenance items on the XF105 at high mileage include EGR valve, turbocharger oil feed pipe, crankshaft rear seal, cooling system hoses and the radiator cap pressure rating, and fuel filter/water separator. Air filter housing seals are also worth checking on high-mileage units. The MX engine is a robust unit that responds well to consistent maintenance.
Are DAF XF parts available for very old XF models (XF95, XF105 pre-2006)?
The XF95 (produced 1997–2006) is an older generation with different engine fitment (ATi and XE engine families) and different cab design from the XF105. Parts for the XF95 are available through specialist aftermarket channels. Call us on 01527 598 000 with the chassis number to check availability for older DAF XF variants.
