    The NEW Brigade Radar Predict Direct Vision DVS 2 upgrade kit is the latest innovation in side and front detection safety designed to meet the new DVS 2 requirements from TFL. This progressive safe system upgrade kit will ensure your vehicle meets the minimum requirements for the Direct Vision Standard. Suitable for Articulated and Rigid Vehicles with DVS 2020 equipment already fitted. Ideal for customers who currently already comply to DVS phase 1 (safe permit) but need to upgrade to the PSS (Progressive Safe System).

    Specifically designed to protect VRU’s from collisions with HGVs. The advanced radar system uses AI technology to detect a potential collision by analysing data such as speed and direction of both the vehicle and VRU’s. By differentiating between static and moving objects, the Radar Predict algorithm alerts the driver when an impact with a VRU is likely.

    HGVs pose a risk to both pedestrians and cyclists, with collisions involving a large vehicle far more likely to prove fatal than those involving a car. Many collisions between cyclists and HGVs occur because the driver has limited direct vision (the ability to see what is outside their cab without using indirect means of mirrors or cameras).

    The single dual-radar unit is fitted on the nearside of the truck and gives complete coverage to the side of the vehicle, including the trailer unit. The trailer discovery mode detects whether the vehicle is fitted with a trailer and prevents articulation causing false alerts. The driver is alerted if a cyclist enters the detection zone and receives a second warning if a collision is predicted.

    An MOIS advanced dual-radar collision prediction system with a 180° detection angle in front of the vehicle also alerts drivers through visual and audible signals. The driver is alerted if a cyclist enters the detection zone and receives a second warning if a collision is predicted.

    The Direct Vision Standard is Evolving
    From October 2024 the DVS Safe System is changing to the Progressive Safe
    System (PSS). The Progressive Safe System includes new additions such as
    the front detection system or Moving Off Information System (MOIS). The new
    legislation requires a front sensory system that detects pedestrians or cyclists
    in the blind spot area in front of the vehicle. The sensor system must also be
    reactive and not provide false alarms.

Brigade Electronics PSS kits and reversing alarms

Since 28th October 2024, HGVs over 12 tonnes gross vehicle weight that operate in Greater London have needed a DVS rating of at least three stars, or a Progressive Safe System fitted, to hold a valid HGV safety permit. PSS adds a Moving Off Information System (MOIS) and a Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) to the sensor, camera, audible warning and signage requirements of the original 2021 safe system.

Two Brigade kits cover that requirement from different starting points. The Brigade Full Progressive Safe System (DVS 2) kit is for a vehicle with no safe system fitted. The DVS 2020 Upgrade to PSS 2024 kit is for a vehicle already carrying the earlier safe system, so you only buy what the 2024 rules added.

Frequently asked questions

Which Brigade kit do I need for a London HGV safety permit?

It depends on the vehicle's DVS star rating and what is already fitted. A vehicle rated below three stars with no safe system needs the full PSS kit. A vehicle already fitted with the 2020 safe system can take the DVS 2020 to PSS 2024 upgrade kit, so you only buy the parts the 2024 rules added. Does the Direct Vision Standard apply outside London?

No. DVS and PSS are part of Transport for London's HGV safety permit scheme and only apply to HGVs over 12 tonnes operating in Greater London. Construction sites, local authorities and haulage contracts elsewhere can set their own vehicle safety requirements, so check the terms of any contract that mentions DVS or PSS.

What is a white sound reversing alarm?

A white sound alarm produces broadband noise across a wide range of frequencies instead of the single-tone beep of a traditional alarm. The SMART bbs-tek alarm in this collection is Brigade's white sound unit. Tonal alarms, such as the Brigade light duty 90dB alarm, are also stocked if your site or vehicle calls for a conventional beep.
