Flexible LED strips for trucks and commercial vehicles
Flexible LED strips are used across a wide range of commercial vehicle lighting applications: cab interior mood and task lighting, load area illumination in box bodies and curtainsiders, step and entry lighting, and supplementary marker light installations. LED strips draw significantly less current than fluorescent or incandescent alternatives, which matters on commercial vehicles where electrical load management is important, particularly on refrigerated units where the alternator output is heavily committed.
LED strip specifications that matter most for commercial vehicle use are voltage (12V or 24V to match the vehicle system), IP rating (waterproof rated strips are essential for any external or wet-environment application), colour temperature (warm white for cab interiors, cool white or daylight for work lighting), and luminous output per metre. Self-adhesive backing is standard on most flexible strips; for permanent installations in high-vibration environments, additional adhesive or mechanical fixing clips provide more secure mounting.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need 12V or 24V LED strips for an HGV?
Most HGVs and heavy commercial vehicles operate on a 24V electrical system. Fitting a 12V LED strip to a 24V supply will cause the strip to fail quickly due to overvoltage. Always confirm the vehicle's system voltage before ordering LED strips. Some installations use a step-down converter to run 12V accessories from a 24V system; if this is your setup, 12V strips are appropriate behind the converter.
What IP rating do I need for exterior LED strip lighting on a truck?
For any external application, including step lighting, marker lighting and underfloor illumination, an IP65 or higher rating is required. IP65 provides protection against water jets. IP67 and IP68 are suitable for submersion-risk applications or installations in wheel arch or underfloor positions where water ingress is more likely. IP20 strips are for dry interior use only.
Can flexible LED strips be cut to length?
Most flexible LED strips can be cut at designated cut points, which are marked on the strip at regular intervals, typically every 50mm. Cutting between these points breaks the circuit and the cut section will not illuminate. Always cut at the marked points and seal cut ends on waterproof strips with appropriate end caps to maintain the IP rating.
