LED units draw less current - relevant on 24V trailer lighting circuits where aggregate lamp load matters - and the absence of a filament means they are significantly more resistant to the vibration typical of trailer and commercial vehicle environments. Lamp failure on a trailer reversing lamp during a DVSA inspection or annual test is a straightforward fail; fitting LED units reduces that risk.

For direct replacement of filament reversing lamps, confirm the replacement LED unit has the correct E-mark approval for its intended use. Reversing lamps on vehicles and trailers must meet the relevant ECE regulations. An LED unit marketed as an auxiliary work lamp may not be type-approved as a reversing lamp, even if the light output is adequate.
